Fátima Zagonel
Artist
Born in Canoinhas/SC in 1954, she received her basic and secondary education in Curitiba/PR.
In 1976, she graduated in Portuguese/English Literature from PUC-PR and in 1993, she completed a postgraduate degree in Marketing/Advertising and Publicity from FAE-PR.
She worked as a Graphic Artist for 20 years before becoming interested in scientific illustration.
In 1998, she took an introductory course in Botanical Illustration with Diana Carneiro at the Municipal Botanical Museum in the Botanical Gardens of Curitiba.
In 1999, she received the Artistic Grant from the Margaret Mee Botanical Foundation/RJ, specializing for six months at the Royal Botanic Gardens – Kew in London, under the guidance of Christabel King.
Today, she dedicates herself mainly to scientific illustration, without neglecting its commercial aspect.
She is a founding member and professor at the Botanical Illustration Center of Paraná.
A member of ASBA – American Society for Botanical Artists since 2010, she participates in exhibitions and teaches courses promoted by this association.
Her works are part of renowned collections of Botanical Art, such as: Royal Botanic Gardens – Kew – London/UK, Shirley Sherwood Collection – London/UK, Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation – Pittsburgh/USA, New York State Museum/Focus on Nature – Albany/USA and Oak Spring Garden Foundation/Upperville/USA.
