Diana Carneiro

Artist

Botanical illustrator and visual artist, born in Guanambi, Bahia, in 1947. Graduated in Biological Sciences from UFPR, 1968; Bachelor's degree in Painting from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná, 1992 and specialization in Botanical Illustration from the Margaret Mee Botanical Foundation, in Kew, England, 1997.

Founding member of the Botanical Illustration Center of Paraná (CIBP) in 2000. Instructor of improvement courses, technical advisory and consultancy to several institutions. Her works have been published in several magazines and scientific bulletins, in Brazil and abroad.

Participates in national and international exhibitions, among them: Annual exhibitions of works organized by CIBP; Exhibitions of the National Meetings of Scientific Illustrators; Biannual exhibition Focus on Nature (2008 and 2010), 13th International Exhibition by the Hunt Institute (USA 2010), Exposicion de Festival Art et Nature (France, 2013) and Exposición de Ilustración Científica Botánica (La Plata, 2013), Exhibition of Botanical Illustration at the University of Aveiro (2014). Co-organizer of the 1st Expomundial/Brazil of Botanical Illustration in 2018.

She has illustrated numerous educational and scientific books, including “Capsicum: Peppers and Chilies in Brazil" (EMBRAPA 2000), which won the Jabuti award in 2001, granted by the Brazilian Book Chamber. Author of the book ‘Botanical Illustration Principles and Methods’ by Editora da UFPR, in 2012, with a 2nd revised and expanded edition, by the same publisher, with 288 pages, illustrated, in 2023.
